Manitou Mineral Springs

Eight naturally carbonated mineral springs flowing from public fonts around downtown and up Ruxton Avenue, free and running around the clock; the walking map and souvenir cups are at the Visitor Center, 354 Manitou Avenue.

Manitou Springs has eight public mineral springs, each with its own taste: 7 Minute Spring, Cheyenne, Iron Spring Geyser, Navajo, Shoshone, Stratton, Twin and Wheeler. The Mineral Springs Foundation, a volunteer group, has restored or developed all eight with the City and private landowners, and the Chamber of Commerce says the public springs are free and flow 24/7. The water is naturally carbonated: carbonic acid formed underground drives it up through cracks in the rock, where it picks up sodium bicarbonate and other minerals.

Navajo Spring’s font is on the back outside wall of Patsy’s Candies’ store, once the bottling works’ sampling room. Cheyenne Spring, around which the stone Manitou Spa Building went up in 1893, is piped to a cast bronze font by the sculptor Paul Rogers. Iron Spring Geyser is on Ruxton Avenue, and 7 Minute Spring was drilled in 1909 for the park of the Mansions Hotel and re-drilled in the 1990s and in 2014. The chamber calls Twin Spring the locals’ favorite, for its sweet taste. For the rest, the Visitor Center at 354 Manitou Avenue gives out a walking map and a chart of each spring’s minerals, and sells collapsible steel cups ($3, or two for $5, cash only) that support the foundation.

The springs and the tour were read on the Chamber of Commerce’s Mineral Spring Water page and its FAQ, and the foundation’s role on the foundation’s home page, on 10 October 2026; the foundation’s page advertises a presentation and box-lunch walking tour fundraiser on 22 August 2026, the dated evidence that it is active.
